Community Use Case: ClassPass

Home  >  Resources  >

Companies have found community-building success in leaps and bounds by leaning into their existing communities. These communities will have a group of people who are invested in your product or service.

This series of blog posts tackle all the different use cases for community. Community building and engagement should focus on one of three areas: customer support, marketing, or product innovation. We’ve created more content around these three use cases in
this blog post.

About

Ready to break a sweat and have a blast doing it?

In 2012, a trained dancer named
Payal Kadakia was frustrated by the lack of a centralized platform for fitness classes in New York City. She envisioned a platform offering users a convenient way to discover and book fitness classes.

She dreamed of a platform allowing users the ability to explore fitness classes across different studios, offering variety and flexibility. The idea was to create a subscription service providing access to a diverse range of classes.

In 2012, Payal founded a company called Classtivity, to connect users with fitness classes. As Classtivity evolved, it rebranded as
ClassPass in 2013.

This new platform introduced a
subscription model that revolutionized the fitness industry, allowing users to access a variety of fitness classes across different studios for a convenient monthly fee. With ClassPass, users gained access to diverse classes such as Pilates, Cycling, Yoga, Boxing, CrossFit, and more.

How it works: start by
creating an account on the ClassPass website or mobile app with your basic information and fitness preferences. Then, choose the membership plan best suited to your needs. Each membership grants a certain number of credits per month which can be used to book classes. When you find a class you're interested in, simply select it and book your spot using your ClassPass credits (you can often book classes up to a week in advance, depending on availability). That’s it, enjoy your workout!

The platform quickly gained popularity, attracting users and fitness studios. Classpass's appeal lies in its convenience, flexibility, and the ability for users to explore various fitness options without committing to a single gym. To this day the platform has grown and counts with 3 categories that users can choose from: Fitness (yoga, pilates, gym time, etc.), Wellness (massages, meditation, etc.), and Beauty (manicures, blowouts, lashes, etc.).

Following its success in the United States, ClassPass expanded its services internationally, making it available in multiple countries. The platform continued to refine its model, offering a variety of plans to cater to different fitness preferences. They even offer a
1-month free trial (create a new account and you’ll get some credits to reserve the classes you like the most!).

ClassPass has built a worldwide community by offering a convenient and accessible platform for fitness enthusiasts to discover, book, and attend workouts wherever they go. At home or abroad, ClassPass empowers users to stay active, explore new fitness experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals around the globe.

Community

Use Case: Marketing

ClassPass has built a worldwide community by offering a flexible and convenient platform for fitness enthusiasts to explore various workouts wherever they go. Here's how ClassPass has fostered its global community:

Variety and Flexibility

ClassPass's core offering is the flexibility it provides to users in choosing from a wide variety of fitness classes, wellness, or beauty activities. Members can
explore different studios, gyms, and workout styles, allowing them to diversify their fitness routines.

ClassPass constantly adds fitness studios and instructors globally, creating a network of diverse workout options. This benefits users and establishes strong relationships with fitness professionals and businesses.

Social Media and Community Engagement

ClassPass fosters a sense of community among its users by offering features to encourage engagement. Through
Instagram, users share their experiences, reviews, and recommendations for classes, helping others make informed choices. The use of social media helps create a digital community where members can interact, share achievements, and inspire each other.

The platform also incorporates ratings and reviews. Users can leave reviews and ratings for the classes they attend. This feedback system helps others make informed decisions. It also creates a dialogue within the community (check this once you choose a studio you want to book a class for!).

Personalized Experience and Member Benefits

The platform employs algorithms to understand user preferences and recommends classes tailored to individual interests. This personalized approach enhances the user experience, making ClassPass feel like a community that understands and supports each member's fitness journey.

ClassPass also provides additional benefits to its members, such as discounts on wellness products,
exclusive access to events, and partnerships with other lifestyle brands. These perks contribute to a sense of belonging to a larger, supportive community.

By offering a dynamic and inclusive fitness platform, ClassPass has successfully built a community of individuals passionate about health and wellness. The combination of flexibility, engagement features, and a diverse range of fitness options has contributed to the growth and strength of the ClassPass community.

CREATING COMMUNITY

Community builders can define their efforts, encourage participation, and increase success by leaning into one use case. This provides a framework for how the community wants to engage.

A thriving community is one where members are eager to participate by engaging with others, creating content, or sharing their experiences. Members stand behind you, your brand, and what you offer.

Lean into your community for support. In return, they’ll uplift other members, encourage growth, and engage consistently.
